We learned a lot at our March meeting! We had two officers from the Met Police Cyber Crime Unit to talk to us about how to avoid being scammed or hacked online, and they were superb. Lots of practical, easy-to-follow advice that you don’t need to be a computer whiz to do. We heard about making passwords harder to hack but easier to remember, the importance of using a different one for everything (and how to make that easier to do), spotting phishing attempts and checking suspect emails. The simplest tip of all was to always update your software as soon as your computer or phone operating system tells you updates are available: these are usually to fix vulnerabilities.
For those who missed the meeting, there is a Met Police website page with links to lots of useful advice and leaflets at https://www.met.police.uk/police-forces/metropolitan-police/areas/campaigns/2019/little-guide-preventing-fraud/ and we have a summarised copy of the slides you can ask for.
A big thank you to Louise for arranging it!
