On 2 July, Hackney Council held a Sustainability Day by Hackney Town Hall. N1WI hosted a stall for the WI Climate Ambassadors in Hackney, raising awareness of the WI climate work and campaigns including clean rivers for people and wildlife, cutting out microplastics and protecting bees, as well as talking about N1WI. There was also vegan cakes and biscuits on sale for visitors to try, showing just how good they taste.
The stall was manned by our committee, of which Clare is a WI Climate Ambassador, Fiona from De Beauvoir WI, who is also a Climate Ambassador in Hackney, and supported by Alison from Middlesex Federation of WI’s and chair of the Middlesex Fed Public Affairs committee.
We were sharing the stall with Sustainable Hackney and Fairtrade Hackney – very appropriate as WI was one of the founding members of Fairtrade in 1992.
