For our July meeting, we learned about CPR, using what3words to help emergency services locate you, and how to find your nearest defibrillator.
The training was using RevivR, an interactive training module from BHF. It is available on their website (https://revivr.bhf.org.uk) and they have a version for WI groups. To find this version, you can ask BHF or your Federation. The meeting was run by Louise, who added her nursing knowledge. She also demonstrated how to use the what3words app – invaluable for giving your location to the emergency services when you don’t know exactly where you are. We learned about defibrillators, which are often to be found in busy public spaces and can be located on one of two websites – https://www.defibfinder.uk/ and https://www.bhf.org.uk/how-you-can-help/how-to-save-a-life/defibrillators/national-defibrillator-network-the-circuit.
Finally, Louise showed us where to put important medical information into your phone so it can be accessed by first responders without them needing to unlock it: vital if you are taking essential medications or are not with anyone who knows who to reach your emergency contact person.
In the event that you ever need to give such emergency support, St John’s and local ambulance services can help with counselling afterwards as it can be difficult emotionally.
