The Committee

The N1WI committee meets once a month to organise the meetings that keep all the members smiling. You can contact us at hello@n1wi.co.uk with any ideas for speakers, outings, meetings, or how to make N1 WI even better!

The committee is elected every year at the AM in May and any member can stand, even if you’ve only just joined! The president is selected from the elected committee members, and the committee chooses which roles each of them will take on.

Rosie – President

Why I joined the WI:

I remember my Granny being an enthusiastic member of the WI in Coventry for years, and she even got me involved with a painting competition they were holding when I was about 11 (I got 2nd place! Something for the CV). The WI also seemed like a great way to meet people, and I’ve always loved making and learning, so it seemed like a good idea to join.

Occupation:

Technologist for an independent publisher. That means coding and doing whatever geeky things I can get my hands on.

Three facts about me:

  • I’m originally from Bristol, and moved to London in 2009
  • I love arts and crafts, especially stained glass and painting, and I run the craft group
  • I look after this website and emails – any problems or suggestions, send them to rosie@n1wi.co.uk!

Ximena – Secretary

Why I Joined the WI:

I joined the WI as a way to make friends, and also get involved in my local community! I’m a serial hobbyist, who loves to craft (especially knitting and crochet), as well as bake, so it really seemed like an excellent fit.

Occupation:

(hopefully to be filled soon)

Three facts about me:

  • I have lived in 4 countries to date, The United States Italy, Switzerland and the UK
  • I love to travel and learn new languages, I currently speak 6 to some degree of fluency, from A2 to completely bilingual/native.
  • I love to send and receive mail and have pen pals in several different countries.

Occupation:

I’m a craft instructor at a marvellous café/shop/bar/party space in King’s Cross.  Or, as my six-year-old puts it, “Mum does party work.”

Three facts about me:

  • I’m originally from Texas
  • I am left-handed
  • When I was 17, I donated bone marrow to my younger sister
  • (One of these things is not true)

Niamh – Committee Member & Hospitality

Why I Joined the WI:

I read a magazine article about inner city WIs and thought I would try to track one down. I like meeting new people, cook a lot, rarely bake (as yet) and used to knit before life took over.

Occupation:

I’ve had a long career in broadcast television and recently completed a post grad course in career counselling. Not sure where it will all take me but looking forward to whatever’s next.

3 facts about me:

  • I am originally from Belfast and came to London many moons ago for university
  • I am interested in wildlife, animals in general and enjoy horse riding (usually at Lea Valley)
  • I love travelling and am always ready for the road……
